2. MAZATLAN HARRIS 6’0 F (CATHEDRAL CATHOLIC)

Mazatlan Harris is a really talented High school 4/5 who has the potential to be a high major 3/4 in college. She has great size and  moves extremely well. She has an excellent feel for the game and plays with calm, even keel demeanor.  Knock down shooter from 10-15 feet out, and her face up ability coupled with a quick 1st step, make it impossible for bigger post players to guard her. Runs the floor hard and finishes very well around the rim. Like Paopao, Harris plays with a confidence and leadership that older players respect and feed off of. Her form and release on her jump shot suggest that she could eventually be a knock down 3-point shooter. And even this past year she was second on her teams in makes, shooting 30% from behind the line. She has natural timing and rebounding instincts which allowed her to lead her team in rebounds, at over 11 per game. She could stand to improve her perimeter ball handling, which would add even more versatility to her game. Harris can also improve her defensive aggressiveness becoming more of presence in the paint and a better rim protector.

4. NAOMI GIPSON 5’10 F (WESTVIEW)

No player has risen as high and as fast as Naomi. Its not hard to see why as she was a big contributor on a good Westview team that qualified for the open division of the CIF SD Section. At 5’10 she spent a lot of time in the post this past season, but she is probably a natural 3 at the next level. She has really good touch around the basket and 10-15 out. Watching her recently, she has also shown the ability to shoot the 3 ball on the club circuit, something she really didn’t do in her 1st HS campaign. Gipson is a very active, hard working player who often finds herself in the right spot on the court to make positive plays for her team. She seems to have a good competitive energy and strong desire to win. Extremely active on both the offensive and defensive glass,  averaging 6 rebounds per game which was second on her team. Like most kids her age she needs to get stronger to increase her effectiveness in the post. Again she has a skill set that will probably translate to a college 3, so she will need to improve her handle to make that eventual transition.

7. EMMA SCHROEDER 5’7 F ( BONITA VISTA)

Emma Schroeder is a hard working player who gives it her all on both ends of the court whenever she is on the floor. Very physical for a 5’7 wing on both the offensively  and defensively. She has a really  good jump shot that extends out to the 3-point line, shooting 31% from behind the arc in her freshman season. She has the combination of skill and high level energy that is rarely seen in younger players, as its often either or. She played a lot of minutes on a deep team that brings most of their talent back but her role should continue to grow as she gains confidence. Her strength and ability to out work and out muscle players should only improve. She needs to refine her offensive skills and work on playing at different speeds to keep defenders off balance.
