Started in 1997. Still in the gym every night.
San Diego Sol began as a women’s travel team. Nearly thirty years later it is a full service club — camps, clinics, teams from kindergarten through high school, and leagues and tournaments that the rest of the county plays in.
In one sentence
We think youth sports is a way to teach children important values and life skills that transcend basketball, and we operate the club so that a beginner and a college-bound player get the same level of expertise and care.

The story
From one travel team to a club that runs San Diego basketball.
San Diego Sol started in 1997 as a women’s travel team. It grew the way most good clubs do — a few families at a time, mostly by word of mouth, mostly because kids kept coming back.
Today the club serves boys and girls 5 to 18 years old. There are teams at three levels: Little Hoopers for kindergarten through 2nd grade, youth teams for 3rd through 8th, and high school. Around those teams sit camps and clinics that run all year, weekly skills classes, and the leagues and tournaments we host for our own teams and for clubs from across Southern California and across the nation.
The thing that quietly changed everything was getting access to our 6 court home gym. Sol is the only club in San Diego with its own multi-court practice and game facility, which means our teams are not fighting for church-hall time at 8pm on a Tuesday. It also means a player who wants extra reps has somewhere to get them.
What we believe
Participation in sport is a vehicle to teach lifelong lessons and values to young people.
We operate our programs and events with integrity and professionalism, and we strive to make it a good experience for players, coaches and spectators alike.
What is different here
Three things clubs cannot copy quickly.
A gym to call home
Access to six courts. Practices do not move, seasons do not get bumped by a school calendar, and players who want extra work have a place to do it.
A hiring bar for coaches
Every coach played in high school or college and has coached at that level. And they have to be a good person — that part is not negotiable.
Everything under one roof
Camps, skills classes, teams, leagues and tournaments all run out of the same building, by the same staff. Families are not chasing across the county – we are your one-stop shop for all your basketball needs.
What people say
Not our words.
“The Sol’s highly experienced and knowledgeable coaching staff uses a positive approach to the game, focusing heavily on fundamentals, individual skill development and team play. Players who come out of this program are well-rounded and skillful, and prepared to succeed in all phases of their careers.”
Jenny Gross — Head Coach, UC Davis
“My daughter has been playing at San Diego Sol since the first grade. Today she is a junior and still loves the game. Great coaches, excellent facilities and outstanding basketball skills is what they offer. Thanks for a great experience!”
