We offer 4 levels of high school teams to accommodate all abilities and skill levels. All players who tryout are placed within a program in our organization. Our Local teams stay in town and our Heat teams and Fire teams are our travel teams. More team details are listed below.

When you register for tryouts please let us know what level of team you are trying out for. Placement onto a Travel team is not guaranteed but all players are eligible to make a Local team. Playing time at ALL levels is determined by the players attendance at practices, their skill level and at the coaches discretion.

Tryout Info

Winter tryouts for boys and girls will be October 30th. You will receive tryout times on your registration receipt. The $50 tryout fee will be applied to the season dues. Tryouts will be held at our general practice facility at Alliant International University in Scripps Ranch (10455 Pomerado Road, San Diego 92131).

When you register for tryouts please let us know what level of team you are trying out for (Academy team (all new players must complete at least 1 season of the Academy team to be allowed to tryout for the Local or Travel teams), Local team, Travel team. Placement onto a Travel team is not guaranteed but all players are eligible to make an Academy team.

Team Selection

Each season San Diego Sol will conduct tryouts for its various teams. Each prospective player must come to tryouts prepared and ready to show his/her basketball abilities. Former and current San Diego Sol players are not guaranteed a playing position on any team. Earning a position on a team will be based on upon the following criteria:

skills and ability
heart, effort and hustle
commitment to the team
work ethic and drive
coachability and respect

At the club’s discretion, individual players may be moved from one team to another. As any player’s skills and commitment level improve, we may ask the player to move to a higher-level team. These changes in the roster might be necessary to assure the appropriate competitive level for each team and to insure the maximum benefit to each player.

Practices

All teams practice twice a week. Youth teams normally practice on Mondays/Wednesdays or Mondays/Thursdays but other day combinations may occur. Potential practice times are 4:00-5:30pm, 5:45-7:15pm and 7:30-9pm with the younger teams generally practicing in the earlier time slots. Specific practice times are determined after tryouts when the teams are being formed. All practices are held at Alliant International University in Scripps Ranch (10455 Pomerado Road, San Diego 92131).

TEAMS OFFERED

Local teams are geared for beginning and intermediate level players or for players who cannot commit to a travel schedule. All players must attend at least one season of the Academy team in order to participate on a Local team

2 practices per week plus 8-10 league games
1 season (winter, spring, summer, fall – approximately 3 months)
November-December Season
$375 for returning players (Normally $450)
$570 for new players (includes uniform)
(can be paid in 2 installments)

Travel teams are for the advanced player who can commit to a tournament schedule. This player has the basic fundamentals and can do skills at a high level with control, speed and power. This player is ready to compete at high level tournaments.

COLLEGE PLACEMENT

Will You Be Next?

Statistics vary but on average about 3% of high school boys and girls basketball players go on to play basketball in the NCAA. The question is – will that be you? It takes more than wanting to play in college to make that dream a reality. You must apply yourself consistently and daily to achieve your goals. The coaching staff at San Diego Sol knows what it takes to get to the next level and can give you the tools to succeed. To date, over 75 of our alumni have gone on to play in college. Skill Development

All players can improve their game and all great players hone their craft every day. During your club season with Sol, you will be challenged to strengthen your weaknesses and to push yourself to the next level. You have to work harder than your opponent to keep the edge.

College Exposure

We offer exposure to all levels of college basketball. But we don’t just wait for a college to discover you. We will pro-actively seek out colleges that fit your academic and athletic interests. We are looking for you to find the right college on the first try and not to have to transfer after the first year.

Online Player Profile

After joining our program, we will set you up with a Sports Recruit player profile. On your profile, you will be able to input your position, height, academic scores, and anything you feel will make you stand out! EXAMPLE HERE

Game Video and Highlights

Every college coach will want to look for game videos or highlights. With Sports Recruits you can upload videos and even use their own video editor to make a highlight film. After your down you can upload it to your profile.
